WWE removed the names of Kenny and Mikey of the Spirit Squad from their Smackdown LIVE roster, and it looks like the duo’s run with the company is officially over. They were involved in Dolph Ziggler’s lengthy feud with the Miz last year.

In case you didn’t know…

Dolph Ziggler started his career in the WWE as a member of the Spirit Squad. The stable originally consisted of Kenny, Mikey, Johnny, Mitch, and Nicky, aka Dolph. The stable went on to become involved with the Mr McMahon and DX feud.

The Spirit Squad was jobbed out to the DX, and the duo of Shawn Michaels and Triple H sent them packing to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), the brand’s developmental centre back in the day.

The heart of the matter

Kenny Dykstra had expressed his hope, in November last year, that he would return with the Spirit Squad to WWE. However, it looks like the company had different plans and have now moved the duo to the alumni section of their website.

The Spirit Squad returned last year when Dolph Ziggler was feuding with the Miz for the Intercontinental Championship. The Miz took it upon himself to humiliate Dolph for being a part of the male cheerleading squad during their feud.

The feud culminated in a brilliant encounter between Dolph Ziggler and the Miz at No Mercy in a career vs. title match. Dolph and Miz showed the entire WWE Universe what they were capable of and pulled out a stunner which went on to become one of the best matches of the year.

What’s next?

The WWE Universe is all geared up for the Ultimate Thrill Ride, WrestleMania 33. The Spirit Squad have not been featured on WWE TV for a long time, and this dismissal will probably go relatively unnoticed.

With all eyes turned to Orlando for the Hall of Fame Ceremony, NXT TakeOver, and Wrestlemania, the timing of this firing has almost brushed the issue under the carpet.

Kenny Dykstra’s day job suffered in November owing to his WWE appearances. This resulted in him in being relieved of those duties. As mentioned before Kenny had high hopes of returning to the WWE but, after this development, it does not look like that is happening anytime soon.
