The importance of the Royal Rumble to WWE really can’t be understated, but it’s popular for another reason as well. The Royal Rumble often features surprise entrants and shocking returns, though this year’s event may have had the biggest surprise return in Royal Rumble history. It was at Royal Rumble 2020 on January 26, 2020 that the “Rated R Superstar” Edge finally made his return to the WWE after being forced into retirement in 2011.

Edge entered the Royal Rumble match at #21. He looked to be in some of the best in-ring shape of his career, and was able to perform just as well as he always had in the past. Not only did Edge dish out a number of Spears, but he also took some bumps and hard shots as well. It appears that Edge’s return to the WWE isn’t going to be in some limited role, but as a truly active wrestler.

It’s unclear where Edge’s character will go from here. His performance in the Royal Rumble set up a number of potential feuds heading into WrestleMania 36 on April 5. During the Rumble match, he and his former tag team partner Randy Orton worked together to take on AJ Styles and The OC, so maybe a feud with Styles is on the horizon. Edge also turned on Orton during the Rumble match, throwing him over the top rope and eliminating him from contention. Considering this, it’s also possible that a match between Edge and Orton is on deck for WrestleMania.

Alternatively, Edge’s first big feud after his return could be with someone completely unexpected. After all, Edge retired as world champion, so maybe he will find himself in the title picture right off the bat. It’s really hard to say at this point, but hopefully more answers come on the next episode of WWE Monday Night Raw.
