The WWE’s most ambitious move in recent memory, the brand extension, has finally dawned in all its imposing reality. With RAW and SmackDown envisioned as two separate, unique heads of the beast, the inevitable question of who goes where has risen. The slew of recent releases would seem detrimental to many in this context, but it seems that the WWE is trying to make a spectacular save. According to wrestlezone.com, Paige is dealing with back and shoulder issues. The website is also reporting, via Dave Meltzer that “Paige is also dealing with “other issues” outside of her injuries, and some higher ups in WWE were concerned about her future in the company.” There had been speculation that Paige’s injuries might not be real, and that they are a cover up for the “other issues” she is dealing with, but Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Paige’s current hiatus has nothing to do with any issues and that she is legitimately injured....

The company has announced that it is making changes to the announcer teams for both on Raw and SmackDown going forward. The move comes the same time that SmackDown is changing nights as it will shift to Thursdays on SyFy beginning next week. The show opens with Randy Orton‘s music as he makes his way into the ring. Randy Orton vs Rob Van Dam An excellent match to open the show, with great back and forth action. RVD looked crisp as usual with a wide variety of high flying moves. Orton looked extremely strong as his offense made the most damage. In the end, RVD countered an RKO and went for the Rolling Thunder....

Several new matches were set for SummerSlam on SmackDown Live this week. The 7-time Women’s Champion Trish Stratus will return to the ring to take on the self-proclaimed “Queen of all Eras” Charlotte Flair, Sami Zayn challenged Aleister Black to a match at SummerSlam and Dolph Ziggler has been confirmed to face The Miz at the event. We also saw several Superstars from the red brand as Drew McIntyre faced Kevin Owens, Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross took on Ember Moon & Bayley and the US Champion AJ Styles (with The OC) took on the WWE Champion Kofi Kingston (with The New Day)....

First on the docket for the blue brand is a six-man tag match pitting The New Day against Randy Orton and The Revival. The “Top Guys” got the best of Big E and Xavier Woods on Sunday to capture the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, but not all was lost as Kofi Kingston retained his WWE Championship against Orton. How will all parties react when they clash on Tuesday night?...

McIntyre talked about how Vince McMahon himself called Cena the greatest of all time - and he agreed. He didn’t care about who he shared the bed with, what his haircut is, or anything else. He cared about his 16 world championships. Cena talked about how he’s heard the same promo every week. McIntyre said the difference is they’re all talk -.and that he’ll show him. They got ready for a brawl and Lio Rush interrupted saying “We’ve got a situation”....

During the match, Orton took a considerable amount of blow as he was kicked hard on several occasions. The identity of the superstar who kicked him is still unknown, but Orton was reportedly pissed off backstage after his match. Elsewhere, we have learned that the decision to pitch in a rematch of John Cena vs Brock Lesnar at Night of Champions was taken just before Monday Night Raw started....
